Why ethical breeders require a spay/neuter contract.
At Joe & Dogs, the health, well-being, and future of our puppies—and the integrity of the breed—are our highest priorities. For this reason, all of our pet-quality puppies are placed with a spay/neuter contract.
We know this may raise questions, so here’s why it matters:

Preventing Overpopulation
Each year, millions of dogs enter shelters due to unplanned litters. Requiring spay/neuter helps ensure our puppies never unintentionally contribute to that heartbreaking reality.

Protecting the Breed’s Integrity
Breeding is much more than just pairing two dogs. Ethical breeding requires extensive health testing, temperament evaluations, and a deep understanding of lineage. Without this, future litters can suffer from genetic health problems and behavioral challenges.

Supporting Long-Term Health
When done at the appropriate age, spaying or neutering can reduce the risk of certain cancers and infections. We work with families to ensure they time this procedure in the healthiest way possible for the dog’s development.

Upholding Responsible Practices
We are deeply committed to raising puppies who are loved, healthy, and well-placed. Requiring a spay/neuter contract helps ensure our puppies are raised as cherished companions—not used for backyard breeding or resale.
